Stage1: UPSC Syllabus 2021: Prelims

The Prelims examination consists of two papers:

  • General Studies Paper - 1
  • General Studies Paper - 2 (CSAT)
    The UPSC Prelims syllabus has been provided below:
The General Studies Paper- 1 covers the following topics:
  • Current events of national and international importance
  • History of India and the Indian National Movement
  • Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
  • Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  • Economic and Social Development, Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
  • General issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change that do not require subject specialization.
  • General Science.
The CSAT paper covers the following topics:
  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision-making and problem solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc.) (Class X level).

Stage 2: UPSC Mains Examination

The Mains Examination comprises a certain number of stages. It has a total of 9 papers, and it can extend up to nine days of testing candidates; this is done based on their perseverance and learning that occur throughout their preparation period. This varies according to the caliber of an aspirant, and the details have been outlined below:
